Rustic Apple Tart

This tart was made for dessert after the Braised Beef Short Ribs. It is quick, easy, and uses just a few ingredients. I use a pre made pie crust, but you can make your own if you wish. It probably only adds 15 minutes to the prep time. I served it with pumpkin ice cream that I bought at a local ice cream shop. Try it, you'll have the perfect dessert for your guests!

Rustic Apple Tart

1 9" pre-made pie crust
3 cooking apples (I used Michigan greenies)
1 T flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 c. sugar
pinch of salt
1 tbsp apple cider or juice

Oven to 375 degrees

Peel core and slice apples thinly. Toss with the flour, sugar, spices, salt and cider. Unroll the pie crust and roll out to 11" diameter with a rolling pin. Place the crust on a parchment lined baking sheet. Put the apples into the center of the crust leaving a two inch border. Fold and pleat the crust towards the center, pinching the folds so they stay closed during baking. If desired, brush the crust with cream or an egg wash and sprinle with sugar. Bake at 375 for 30-40 minutes, until crust is golden and flaky and the apples are soft and bubbly. I served this with pumpkin ice cream, but vanilla would be fine. Enjoy!
